Yesterday, I discovered my purse was stolen from my accidentally unlocked car. I grabbed my book bag, thinking it was my purse, etc. So, today, I have no money because my cash was stolen, along with my checkbook, resulting in my account being frozen until all my past transactions are cleared and then I can open another account.
For some reason, although I am usually pretty thrifty, frugal, environmental friendly, etc., a thought came to me while I showered today. I was for some reason thinking of packaging. You know, that food comes in. Mac and cheese, etc. Then I thought of how Whole Food Market has those bulk bins and the bags available are either reusable or recyclable right there at their store, then I started thinking that I remembered when Cary took me to Ft Worth to Central Market and they had triple the bulk bins that WFM has. And some of their prices were cheaper for the same items.
So, since moving to Arlington, I have become quite good at recycling, thanks to their curbside service, but I always want to do more. I long to be an even better steward of the land, my life, etc. Thats what this blog is about. Being more aware and actually doing a better job at saving money, eating better, gardening better, creating less waste-even if it is recyclable. We have one particular teen in the house that shops for her own food and it's a ton of those frozen meals, and cereal bars, etc - all with a ton of packaging. I'm hoping that one day I will either figure out a use for those plastic containers or she will start eating real food with the rest of us which would create great relationships, improve her health and well being, create alot less waste, save grocery money, etc. I am putting the matter on my daily prayer list. Right now I am thrilled that she puts effort into recycling and she totally knows what is compostable or not. That makes me pretty happy. I see effort and I appreciate it. It has to start somewhere.
I am encouraging my boys and Cary to create a post from time to time when they want to share anything, but I doubt there will be many.
